Creative Writing Crash Course
Keep it Simple
Writing an essay for the 11 Plus exams is easy once you know how! There are some techniques that you must use in your writing to present your work in the best possible way and to win those all-important marks. For example:
-
You need to be able to generate a story idea fast;
-
You need to be able to write it within a short space of time (usually around 30 minutes); and
-
Your work needs to be error-free.
Yes, that’s a lot, but you can do it if you follow the tips in this video and the rest of the course.
One important skill you need to cultivate is the ability to keep your story simple. Imagine going to McDonald’s, buying a happy meal and trying to eat the burger, fries and milkshake at the same time - you would look a mess! It’s too complicated. Your story will be a mess if you try to do too much at once. You need to aim for one or two main messages you want to share and then work on your description. Watch this video to find out more.
